The Spectrum story starts back in 1989 with the tiny distribution business founded in George in the Western Cape.

The business grew and continued to grow into a substantial business serving the Southern Cape area.

In 2002 the next Spectrum company was founded in Port Elizabeth, serving the southern part of the Eastern Cape.

Around 2014 we were encouraged by, of all people, a tyre salesperson, that we should extend from being merely a distribution business to become a logistics or transport business.

That immediately made sense since we had a fleet of vehicles, plenty of warehouse space and pretty much all the infrastructure to begin the business as mentioned.

Our first purchase was a UD 480 horsepower horse with a triaxle trailer fitted with a refrigeration body.

From that place we have been able to add a horse and trailer to the fleet every year since.

Thus began our career in transport.

This was a niche offering, and it was most advantageous for growing the small company into a fully-fledged transport and logistics company.

Since the company evolved from the service industry our way of doing business is very people and service orientated.

Without hesitation we admit that our people skills and relationships have been the backbone of our success, though never beyond improvement.

We are so thankful to the people and the customers who gave us the foot up to get going.

Our focus being dominated by the container trade from the Port Elizabeth ports, inland to the highvelt.

That has remained the core of our business, but we diversify for risk management, to make our fleet more productive, and our operations more economical.

We strive “to make it happen”, and it is our ambition to continue in that same form.

Spectrum Africa Enterprise was formed in 2021 to benefit long serving staff with ownership of an enterprise and we will continue drive growth in that company too.
